Xeno's Bookshelf now brings you:
Jinn 93x Archives I looked around and found that Jinn was neither in, nor on the bed I woke up on. My attire was as I last recalled it the night before—my top was off, but my pants were still on, and it appeared as though I had slept on top of the bed covers. I wasn't aware of what time it was but as I propped myself up on my elbows and looked around, I realized I was still tired and sleepy, and ended up collapsing back on the bed and falling asleep again. At some point I realized that I was being poked in the ribs and I groggily pried my eyes open to see in a blurry manner Jinn grinning and standing next to the bed holding something up over me. Not reacting quickly enough, Jinn poured the better part of a gallon of water over my head. I lunged at her, falling out of bed while grasping Jinn's thighs, causing her to stumble backwards and fall on her hind end. This led to her giggling as she proceeded to pound me on the head with the pitcher the water had been in. We grappled, wrestled, and began tickling each other as we had the evening before, the frolicking ending finally when Jinn began losing her breath as I continued tickling her, and she begged me to stop as she kept laughing. We both collapsed on our backs, panting for breath, giggling sporadically as we attempted to regain some semblance of composure. Once Jinn had settled down she was able to say, "I see you're just as frisky as you were last night." "You don't appear to have lost any of your exuberance either," I countered. "Although we didn't get as romantic as I had hoped, I can't remember laughing as much since—" she strangely and immediately cut off her thought. "Since when?" I followed up. "S-since some time ago," she avoided answering me adequately. "You don't want to speak of it obviously, and since you don't, I can only assume that that `time ago' was not with me. That's okay, Jinn, I'm not prying. I'm just glad you had a grand laughing bout with someone," I tried to gain her confidence. "That's sweet, you'll be pleased to know that that person I had such a great time with was a lot like you—in fact, he could not have been much more like you if he had tried," she stated, referring, I believe, to the man she knew as Abe on Earth, who of course was me! "Well, I'm glad you have such great taste in companions!" I laughed and began tickling her again. After a few minutes more of wrestling about, I asked, "So, are you going to show me what you've been able to achieve out here on your island?" "Sure, but I think it will be contrary to your loyalty to your Royal connections," she admitted. "Don't be so sure about that, Jinn. I don't know if I've ever conveyed this to you, but I have primarily used my status as a Royal in order to attain prestige within society, and to acquire wealth and possessions, so the bottom line for me is `I don't care if Royalty sinks or swims,' I'm looking out for my own interests—wherever I might find them, and if your colleagues can help to attain my desires, I will be more than happy to renounce my Royal associations and aspirations!" I sought to assure Jinn. "We—I always felt you were an obstacle in the higher, and noble, I might add, goals of the Conglomerate," she declared, sitting on the bed facing me with her legs bent under her, clutching a pillow. "Okay, here's one thing that I don't understand, and perhaps you can enlighten me; depending on who you're talking with, your organization is either referred to as the Conglomerate, or the Collectorate. Which is it Jinn?" I queried, sitting up in bed, facing her. Jinn paused, possibly composing herself before stating, "Alright, I won't hold anything back…but just so I can fully trust you, I want you to wear a Thought Perceiver while I ask you a few questions. Are you agreeable to that?" "Of course Jinn, I've nothing to hide, and I'll be glad to wear the device if you will also," I requsted in a soft voice. Jinn got up from the bed, still carrying the pillow, and began to walk toward the door. She then spun around on her toes, threw the pillow at me, and smiling said, "Get cleaned up, put some decent clothes on, and when you're ready, press the button by the door and you'll be brought to the dining area." I moved my eyes from Jinn as I swung my feet out onto the carpet and began to rise from the bed when Jinn reassured me, saying, "And yes, Brax, I'll also wear a Thought Perceiver!" As she stood there with the door half opened, I said, "Thanks," and then threw the pillow back at her as she laughed and quickly shut the door. I tried to remember that even though we had had some grand laughs, as we had when I knew her as Shara Evans on Earth in Crescent City, this was the person that had caught me with a barbed hook I thought was love, only to find out that she had deceived me and thrust me on a journey to another dimension, only to learn the woman I had loved, had used me as a matter of convenience. I did clean up, change into some stylish threads, and pushed the button adjacent to the door Jinn left through. Within mere moments, the door opened, and a woman a little shorter than Jinn walked me along a corridor to the dining area. As we walked, my thoughts were bouncing back and forth between my concern for Dezz and Brok, and the questions I would be asked while connected to that `Thought Perceiver.' There were also subjects that I wanted Jinn to be forced to be truthful to. I must admit that I was quite apprehensive about being questioned with a Lakunan glorified lie detector affixed to my person, but the more I gave thought to that, the more I had to concede that Jinn must be concerned about having to tell the truth as well.
