Jinn 93x Archives

"So, what happened when you sent the first thing by the EMITT? Did it not come back? By the way, what was the first object?" I enthusiastically asked.

"The first thing sent was an automatic remote camera, set to take three hundred sixty degree panoramic pictures, once every minute for twenty-four hours, and broadcast the images immediately back through the portal for our team to view. It was constructed so that it was roughly six feet tall with a base that was so heavy it would be impossible for three men to move," she detailed before taking another drink.

"So what happened, were you unable to retrieve it?" I asked.

"No, but when the Conglomerate retrieved the camera and developed the photographic images they could tell that the camera had not been sent anywhere on Lakuna," Jinn revealed.

"How did they decide that?" I asked curiously.

"Dreen, project on the screen Alpha image zero zero zero one, and prepare to display at once every two seconds, Alpha images zero zero zero four through zero zero five one, and then zero three nine four through zero six two eight when I let you know," Jinn commanded a female underling.

Within moments an image came up on the screen that was quite remarkable.

I had to keep in mind that it was a three hundred sixty degree photo, but what I observed, bearing in mind that I was from Earth, was not that unusual, but from a Lakunan's point of view it must have been perplexing.

As I peered up at the image that had been projected on the screen, from the far left I witnessed a pipe-like structure that had been cut off on the one side, and was continued on the right side. To the right of the pipe structure on the left side of the image was an object that at first was not very clear to me, but the closer I looked, it became evident to me that I was gazing upon a complete round about view of an early nineteen hundreds playground!

There was no doubt in my mind that the pipe-like object the photographic image unintentionally split in half was some form of monkey bar setup like I recalled playing on growing up in San Francisco. Once it was clear in my mind what I was looking at, objects such as a slide, teeter-totter and a merry-go-round were now quite apparent. There were five young children that I observed frolicking upon playground equipment and four adults sitting upon two benches in the background of the shot. Still farther back behind the benches were an assortment of trees, and finally, behind them was a sign partially facing the camera's lens with a few words on it; only one being clear, "kinder." Finally, in the back of the sign, a couple of automobiles, obviously their age providing my aforementioned date to the photographic image, were observed.

"What do you see there, Brax?" Jinn asked.

Careful so that I did not trip off the Thought Perceiver, I replied, "Well, it's obviously an outside image. I can see the sky and trees and there are children that seem to be climbing on different items while adults are sitting on some form of furniture. There seems to be a sign that is in some language I cannot make out."

"Very good, Brax. From further information, we have determined that the sign is in one of the many languages found on Earth and essentially says `Children only on playground toys.' If you will observe in the far background above the adults on the left, there are two personal transport vehicles called cars. The image you are observing occurred on Earth nearly one hundred years ago their time," Jinn explained as she walked closer to the screen.

"Amazing," I added, and then recalling my seventh and eight grade German language classes, I remembered that the word `kinder' meant `children,' as in `kindergarten,' a German word Americans adopted that I thought meant `children's garden.'

"Dreen, run Alpha images zero zero zero four through zero zero five one, and then queue up Alpha images zero zero seven eight through zero zero nine four and prepare to roll when I signal," she commanded.

The assistant that Jinn directed these directions to replied by a nod and began rapidly fingering a touch pad, and after a few seconds turned and again nodded to Jinn.

"Now observe the screen," she stated, resting her hands on metal railing separating us from most of the workers in the room.

The first set of images showed what was obviously police officers approaching the alien device and inspecting it; one of the constables could even be seen taking (what looked like to me) a Billy club and tapping on the device.

"Here you see what our scientists believed were security agents inspecting our camera," Jinn paused to request an assistant to bring us more glasses of Hannyl.

"They certainly look perplexed, and it looks like one of the security agents in the background is talking with the adults," I remarked.

"Yes, he was no doubt asking them about the sudden appearance of the device on the children's play yard," she concurred, and then said, "Next segment, Dreen."

Each image that the screen displayed lasted about three seconds before advancing to the following one, and as I watched the screen I observed about a dozen men and at least three women frozen by the camera in the act of either walking toward the Lakunan device, and as the sequential photographic images were projected to the screen, I witnessed a temporary blind being erected in the background so that eventually the area in which the object (and I reckoned the scientists that were there) had been effectively screen off from any prying eyes by passers-by.

The individuals now in the secure area could be seen either inspecting the camera (one frame even showing a mustachioed older gentleman with his face perhaps within inches of the ring-like lens of the camera which caused all who were looking at the screen to either giggle or laugh) while others could be seen writing on pads of paper.

I thought of how ludicrous the actions of these scientists would be in our present time if an object materialized out of the blue!

There would be helicopters hovering overhead, news reporters and cameramen jockeying for the most advantageous spot, while haz-mat teams, bomb sniffing dogs and remote controlled robotic units assessed the threat level.

But the times were certainly much different when the Conlomerate sent this object through the portal created by the alien EMITT device.

Still peering at the screen while sipping on the Hannyl I could see that a solitary individual had set up a tripod and was caught by the camera lifting a somewhat bulky box up onto the mount.

This was obviously a still-image camera and the photographer was preparing to begin taking pictures.

I then noticed that the next image had the following red lettered message on the bottom: "Ending image compilation. Transp" and I realized that some form of commands was being received by the camera, and that the lettering of the command had been cut short by the frequency of the photos that the camera had been programmed to take.

I eagerly anticipated the next photographic image, and only had to wait moments before it was displayed up on the screen.

That next image showed the photographer seemingly gesturing with his left hand toward his left, and the more I focused on this, it became apparent that he was probably giving directions to a man standing in front of, and close to, the Conglomerate's camera.

This person, whose backside was all that we could see, like nearly every other male on the scene, was wearing a hat.

In his left hand he was grasping what appeared to be a measuring stick in the form of an angle. In other words, the stick was so tall that the height of it could not be determined, as the image I was gazing at cut off the vertical dimension of the measuring stick. Additionally, the stick appeared to have an adjustable horizontal section piece so that the height and width of most objects could be recorded and documented.

It was evident to me that within the next moment or so, the photographer would be set up to take any number of photographs that would be asked of him. I was uncertain if the Conglomerate intelligentsia that had been watching this happen all those years ago actually realized just what they were seeing.

However, having noted this, I then noticed that on the bottom of this image, the red lettered wording I had observed before now stated, "Ending image compilation. Transportation sequence initiated— Internal projector functional—Returning now."

And, that was the last image projected on the large screen before us.
