Previously: After Felipe dies, V reviews the directions in the Blue notebook with Francois. V arranges for Francois to live in an apartment over a garage that is owned by the sheriff Dobbs' mother in exchange for chores.

Next: As Francois grew up in the household of Emma Dobbs, he finished high school and went on to college, taking courses that gained him a degree in an Agricultural field. It was Francois' dream to one day own a vineyard; so studying agricultural principles seemed the right thing to do.

When he had time, Francois would go to the caverns that he had discovered shortly before his uncle died. With better equipment he was able to make a thorough investigation of the caverns and the unique formations that comprised them. He was always careful, though, to make sure that he was never followed for he thought of the caverns as his special possession.

Francois at 16 did not want much; he did not long to have a new car-for himself, his uncle's Blue Bomber was just fine. He didn't even want a girl friend. He reasoned that he was not ready to marry, and he did not want to rush into things. There was also a part of his heart that still belonged to Adaleen. Adaleen had become his dream girl. He had become the knight in shining armor that had rescued the fair princess from the ravenous dragon, Fearsart. For now in his life, Adaleen would always win out over any girl he would meet. He needed time to let Adaleen go, or rather, for Adaleen to let him go.

As the years passed, Francois kept a calendar and on it he would note days that were of importance, particularly those related to the instructions in the Blue notebook. And Francois was diligent. He would always call Mr. Howell days, sometimes weeks before the date of a transaction was to be made.

Mr. William Howell rented a small office on 107th west in New York City and on the day that he had been contacted by the beautiful young woman in 1952, he had no clients, and was a young, struggling African-American attorney who had only recently obtained his bar degree. Howell would recall on occasion how he had been told that he was to have only one client, and that client would be Francois Charboneau. In exchange for his services, he would be paid one hundred thousand dollars yearly, or he could use the information that Francois gave him to invest in the stock exchange. But he could not do both; it was either one, or the other. Any violation of this trust and his services would be terminated.

William was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth…he would take the one hundred grand, and be happy.

As the years past, he would come to regret his decision, but a deal was a deal, and he would honor the agreement.

Sometimes William would not hear from Francois for many months, and it would worry William, for over the years, William grew to like Francois very much, and find joy in his investment successes. The two even became quite at ease being on a first name basis with each other.

Many of the companies he was told to invest in, he had not heard of before. In 1955, Textron American, the Polaroid Corporation and the Radio Corporation of America were not well known to William when he was told to purchase their stock, or make investments in them, but invariably, those names would soon be recognized for the incredible leaps in value.

Over the years William learned of companies such as International Business Machines, Brown-Forman,Inc., Eli Lilly Co., Control Data Corporation, Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge, CPC International, Teledyne, Inc., Castle & Cook, and Data General.

Equally puzzling was when Francois would call William requesting that he sell a stock that seemed to be steadily increasing in value. Yet again, Francois would be undeniably proven correct, for within a month at the latest, the stock in question would have taken a nosedive.

When 1962 began, Francois for the first time asked William a question that he had never heard the voice on the other end of the phone ask. "How much am I currently worth, William?"

William was speechless for a moment, he then finally said, "As of this morning Francois, your total worth is one-hundred, ninety-eight million, and some change."

"How much change, William?" Francois laughed.

"Approximately three hundred, forty-five thousand dollars," William responded.

"How much of that change is, a, how do you say it, William, 'wet'?" Francois replied.

On the other end of the line William was snickering, "Francois, I believe you mean 'liquid.' You mean how much of your money do you have available, without having to sell anything."

"Yes," Francois was laughing, "that is the term that I meant to use William, liquid. How much liquid funds do I have?"

William was looking through some papers, found what he was looking for, and then spoke to Francois, "Francois, you have two hundred, thirty-three thousand dollars in liquid funds. How much do you require?"

Very directly, and to the point, Francois stated to William, "I require a check made out to Karl and Virginia Summons of Santa Margarita. The amount is one hundred eighty thousand dollars and no cents. I'd like that to be a banker's check, and sent to my address as soon as possible. Is everything clear, William?"

"Yes Francois. But, may I ask what you are purchasing with this money?" William asked.

"I don't mind telling you William that I am buying my future," Francois said confidently.
